Crytek Revives Jack the Ripper in Arena of Fate

Crytek has announced a new online multiplayer game starring famous characters from fairy-tales and legends.

The game, which will be called Arena of Fate, will give players the opportunity to step into the shoes of famous figures from history and pit them against each other in epic cooperative battles. According the game’s announcement release, its cast will include characters such as Frankenstein, Jack the Ripper, Baron Munchhausen, Robin Hood, Little Red Riding Hood and Joan of Arc. As obviously important its famous cast will be however, its the hope of its developers that players will find more than just a gimmick when they play the game.

“Besides the game’s iconic heroes, which everyone in the team really loves, we are also challenging ourselves to carefully craft a streamlined player experience that allows for both greater accessibility, and rich, deep, action-packed gameplay,” said Vesselin Handjiev, director for Arena of Fate. “We are very excited to meet the first wave of players in the arena this summer, and will be listening carefully to the feedback we receive and making the community’s contribution a key part of our efforts to perfect the fun.”

Alongside its announcement, Crytek has also released a brief teaser trailer showing off the game’s cartoony style. Sadly, it never delves into the actual gameplay which the company has described as being centered around “fast-paced 5 vs. 5 battles.” In other words, we’re probably looking at a MOBA. That being the case, Crytek has revealed that the game will be playable at this year’s E3 and that prospective players can already register to take part in an early access beta. The game itself is being developed by Crytek’s Sofia studio, which was established after the company’s 2008 acquisition of Black Sea Studios.
