Crytek to Develop Homefront 2

When THQ announced the closure of Kaos Studios in June, the future of the Homefront series looked doubtful, especially in light of its lackluster performance. Still, THQ had always said that they planned to make a sequel, and today they announced that Crytek would be handling the development for Homefront 2.

Homefront was a bit of a disappointment. When it was announced, there was a fair amount of anticipation surrounding the game. Unfortunately, the game didn’t live up to it promise, although the story was quite good (as we mentioned in our review). However, the statements from the announcement don’t reflect that. Says THQ:

Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli chimed in with this:

We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ. We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.

We’d love to see the Homefront universe get a high-quality game, and Crytek certainly has the pedigree to get it done. We’ll have to wait a while to see how it turns out, as the tentative release window is THQ’s fiscal year 2014, which means a late 2013 release at the earliest.

My little title pitch:

Homefront 2: We’ve Got Calamari So Real Looking, You Can Taste It!

HQ game? Hah. If your definition of ‘high quality’ is making technology demonstrations and throwing in a paper thing plot, then, yeah.

Seems like a perfect match to me. A development company known for churning out average games tackling a sequel to a game that pretty much epitomizes averageness.

Go mediocrity!

The storyline and plot was not that interesting.

Both Frontlines and Homefront were not that AAA quality, both on ty Unreal engines, and left their community to hang out to dry. I don’t know if 2-3 more years is room enough for people to forget that regardless of the engine or what dev team puts together the next one.

Potential huh? The stuff of losers. Cevat Yerli cannot complete with the likes of the MW’s or BF’s giants, it like a reform part trying to run against Democrats and Republicans. Thier just bottom feeding.

I’m disliking THQ for ruining their best franchise of Red Faction, the only thing I look forward to published by THQ is Metro. But then again their not doing anything on the development or even story side, thats all 4A games.
