Culpa Innata is set in Russia, one of the few remaining Rouge States, where a World Union citizen is murdered. This murder oddly coincides with the accidental death of a prominent professor in Adrianopolis, an important border town between the World Union and Russia. Peace Officer Phoenix Wallis is assigned to lead the investigation of the murder. Still young and inexperienced, she will soon make discoveries beyond her wildest imagination, as skilled hackers and subversive characters begin taking an inexplicable interest in Phoenix. Her investigation reveals enigmatic clues that lead her deeper and deeper into a mystery that challenges not only her case, but her very beliefs in the worldview she has sworn to protect. This story-driven, third person game features over fifty characters that you’ll frequently engage in dialogue with throughout your investigation. Using the classic mouse in a point and click interface, the game also features a wide variety of organic obstacles ranging from logic puzzles to hi-tech gadget manipulation to inventory challenges.
Now that I have the storyline and gameplay synopsis for Culpa Innata out of the way, let me get to the trailer. This must have been a bad week for trailers, and this one is no exception. Nothing against the cool folks over at Strategy First, but this one needed to cook a bit longer. There is nothing more irritating in a game trailer – other than complete silence – than watching mouths moving without hearing the actual dialouge. Granted the music is pretty nice, but if you are going to show mouths move in more than one scene, let us hear what the heck they are saying. Usually with a trailer, it gives you an idea of what is going to happen in the game. I had no clue what was going on – I do know that the main female character took a ride in the elevator from hell and threw up in the loo, and then later on she performed some strange magic-fairy-dust dance in what appears to be a commie strip club. At one point, I assumed that the man she was chasing through the garden was a ghost because he ran through the gate while she ran into it. Now I am not so sure. All in all, I found this trailer quite strange and unpolished. This may not have any negative impact on the game, but it just makes sense to provide a trailer that gets the audience pumped about your product instead of leaving them feeling weird for watching it. Culpa Innata will be released in October for the PC.
