Current Consoles Can’t Handle “Total War”


In what might be seen as the understatement of the year, Creative Assembly studio director Mike Simpson says that “the current generation of consoles just can’t cope” with his company’s Total War titles — “they don’t have enough memory, by a large factor.” This will not come as a surprise to anyone who has commanded hundreds of individually rendered samurai in a Shogun 2 battle.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Simpson also speculated on the future of the strategy genre, which has been perennially unsuccessful on consoles. Simpson maintains that they have “some ideas in the pipeline,” but didn’t elaborate. When he does, we’ll be listening.
