Fragrant Branch of Yore – Use Locations

  • Majula (Rosabeth of Melfia – Required): Travel up the shaded path to the ruins to find Rosabeth of Melfia blocking a door switch. Use a branch to free her, so you can activate the switch leading into the Shaded Woods. She is a merchant that sells Pyromancy spells and items.
  • The Lost Bastille (Straid of Olaphis): Before going to Sinner’s Rise, travel to the top of the tower filled with exploding hollows. Blocking a bonfire in one of the cells, you’ll find the petrified Straid of Olaphis. Free him to trade boss souls for powerful unique items.
  • The Shaded Woods (Weaponsmith Ornifex): There are 3 frozen enemies. The first is on a ledge near the entrance bonfire. Unfreeze and kill him to open the Fang Key, opening the door in the cave below where you’ll find Weaponsmith Ornifex. Talk to her and she’ll return to her home in Brightstone Cove, where she will trade unique items for powerful souls.
  • The Shaded Woods (Manscorpion Tark): Another frozen enemy blacks the ground path to Manscorpion Tark. This strange NPC will only talk if you have the Ring of Whispers equipped, which can be purchased from the cat merchant in Majula. He will reward you with the Second Dragon Ring after defeating Scorpioness Najka.
  • The Shaded Woods (Lion Mage): The third frozen tribal enemy blocks the way into a ruined building on the path to the Scorpioness boss arena. There is another Fragrant Branch of Yore and the Lion Mage armor set located within.

There’s a branch for talking to manscorpion tark or whatever his name is with the ring of whispers once you beat the scorpion boss. He also gives you second dragon ring of you talk to him again

It’s not Rosabeth of Malfia (who’s that???), it’s Licia and she only appears there AFTER you exhaust ALL of her talk options when you find her in the tower of Aegis. (faith merchant).

@Ben Gosselin: Rosabeth is the Pyromancy merchant you’ll find in the ruined gatehouse. Licia isn’t petrified, and she’s located in the switch-room leading to Heide’s Tower or the Huntman’s Copse — she doesn’t block the Shaded Ruins. I think you might have NPCs confused?

@Kevin Thielenhaus. D’oh! You right. I read “door switch” and jumped the gun, she’s the one who unlocks Huntsman’s Corpse… She definitely isn’t petrified…. which is what this whole page is about. My bad. lol

The Doors of Pharros Gyrm aren’t petrified;’they’re automatonous statues that throw axes when you use the lock stones near them, serving as a trap for the Rat King covenant , and an effective one at that

I used the branch I got from Sinner’s Rise on Straid of Olaphis (The Lost Bastille), do I need to start again to progress?

@Karl: There are a few more Branches you can get at that point in the game. If you can reach the Iron Keep (found through the Earthen Pit / Harvest Valley) there is a merchant near the castle entrance that sells one. If you’re able to survive a drop down the pit in Majula, you can also find a Branch next to the entrance to the Black Gulch.
