Dark Souls 2 Getting Three New DLC Chapters

Despite having originally said that DLC wasn’t being considered for Dark Souls 2, From Software announced today that not only one, not only two, but three DLC chapters for Dark Souls 2 will be released all by the end of the year. The three episodes, collectively called “The Lost Crown Trilogy,” will individual sell for $10, and for PC players, a season pass will be available on Steam for $25.

The crowns referred to in the titles of each of the chapters refer to crowns that King Vendrick once owned that the player must now collect. The first chapter, “The Crown of the Sunken King,” will be released on July 22 and will take players to an entirely new area in the Dark Souls 2 universe — an expansive underground civilization complete with stepped pyramids, decrepit caverns, and of course, new enemies and bosses.

The trailer From Software released today showed off a new enemy that walks around with the dreaded poison spitting statues from the Black Gulch, a various decaying warriors with green — presumably poisonous — mist emanating from their bodies, a sorcerer utilizing magic, a petrified dragon with its head looming over a doorway, and of course a grotesque looking black dog thing that will no doubt serve as a boss during the DLC.

The other two chapters, “The Crown of the Old Iron King,” and “The Crown of the Ivory King” will be released on August 26 and September 24, respectively. While not as much info is known about these two upcoming chapters, we do know that The Old Iron King is in fact a boss in Dark Souls 2 and one of the four great souls that you must collect in order to reach Drangleic Castle. Who are the other two kings? I don’t know enough about Dark Souls lore to give any guesses, but knowing Dark Souls, one can bet that their identities have already been alluded to somewhere in the lore. Let us know what you think in the comments!
