Darksiders, Red Faction, Other IPs Available in Second THQ Auction

THQ is having another round of auctions as part of its bankruptcy proceedings, with various intellectual property going up for sale that wasn’t snapped up in the publisher’s assets auctions last month.

The publisher announced today that the next round of auctions would start on April 1 and probably be concluded by mid-May. Among the IP at auction are the Red Faction, MX and Darksiders franchises, as well as the Homeworld franchise, Destroy All Humans!, and others. THQ said in an email announcement that it has received “more than 100 expressions of interest in purchasing various titles,” and that “a vigorous sale is anticipated.”

Final bids on the properties are due on April 15, and the properties have been divided into six lots, with Red Faction, Homeland, the MX franchise and Darksiders each getting a separate lot. Other “owned software” is grouped together in the fifth and sixth lots: Games such as de Blob and Destroy All Humans! are part of Lot 5, while Lot 6 comprises Costume Quest and Nexuiz. Last time THQ went to auction, it sold studios and IP to the tune of about $72 million.

As it stands now, it seems as though we’ll have to wait some time to find out what’s to become of THQ’s various properties that haven’t been purchased. Hopefully there’s something to the “more than 100 expressions of interest” quote, however, and that these franchises will find new homes, rather than just drifting off to extinction.

I really hope someone buys the darksiders IP and shows it the care needs.

I hope someone reminds Sega that since they own Relic now, it’s a good idea to also buy Homeworld franchise.

I would love it if Darksiders gets snapped up, other than Homeworld I couldn’t care less about the rest

I’d really like to see the continuation of the darksiders saga, so I hope some talented studio picks this up. Wonder for how much each asset will go for.
