Dave Cox and Mercury Steam Want To Reboot Contra

At E3 2011, Konami teased a new Contra game, and then promptly shut up about it. As it turns out, the product is very much alive, under the watchful eye of long-time Castlevania producer David Cox.

Interviewed by VG 24/7, Cox didn’t have much to offer in the way of details, but he did offer hope:

“Like I said, I know there’s going to be pressure on us to do another Castlevania game, but I don’t want to rise to that pressure. I want to do something else. I love Contra. I’d love to do Contra. At Mercury Steam we’ve got an original idea that I think is really awesome. We’d love to bring that idea to market and I’m hoping that the success of Lords of Shadow 2 will allow us to do that.”

Hear that, video game gods? If Lords of Shadow 2 does well, we’ll get a Contra reboot. Now, I’m not sure we even want a Contra reboot — some things are best left alone — so take this as less of a prayer and more of an…invitation to keep an eye on the situation.
