Day Z Creator Says He Considered Quitting Over The War Z

We’ve all been hearing a lot lately about the fiasco surrounding The War Z, a zombie combat survival MMO that was released in alpha, popped onto Steam without all its features plugged in, and otherwise surrounded in controversy.

But there’s also the part where The War Z is a flagrant rip-off of Day Z, the ArmA II mod created by Dean “Rocket” Hall. The existence of The War Z and all the controversy surrounding it has had implications for Day Z too, and the standalone retail version of the mod Hall has been working on with ArmA creator Bohemia Interactive. It’s been so trying, Hall said on a recent Reddit post, that he considered quitting the games industry.

“I’ve been pretty depressed about the whole situation,” Hall wrote. “From a personal standpoint, this whole ‘saga’ of the development made me seriously question if I wanted to be involved in the industry and I gave serious thought to cutting my losses and not being involved in the project.”

Thankfully, it seems as though Hall hasn’t decided to cut his losses, however, and work on the standalone Day Z continues. However, promised updates on its progress won’t be coming until the new year, Hall says.

Thanks God I checked feedbacks about War Z before opening my wallet… It’s so close to a fraud, make me want to avoid this title like the pest…

As for DayZ, I saw videos of peoples playing it (youtube) and tried it myself… My conclusion, ARMA is so not user friendly, it throws a layer of difficulties unnecessary, and DayZ is stuck with that…
Second, and probably the main game killer, for me, is seeing some zombies walking inhumanly fast, if not outright teleporting… Ammo are so scarce than I feel I have to wait for these zombies to stop moving (generally in your face) before starting to shoot… Also The Lag is too strong with this one…

I guess, to have my dose of Zombie survival, I’ll stick with Project Zomboid for now… Or keep playing more casuals one, like Dead Rising 2 and such…

ITS A ING ZOMBIE GAME..How can you rip off of something thats all the same. People become zombies and you go kill them. Thats all the mechanics the game has. No originality.

Its the same if I decide to create a FPS game. Are companies like Activision and EA going to come to me because it resembles the same type of game they create.

This is all Bull.

Just leave Dean alone. Let him worry this on his own, being such a respectable, mature, leader, the least he deserves is to finish his project without the community putting more stress on him to finish it. This is why I’m proud of us on /r/Dayz for encouraging him to relax not rush the release.
