Day Z Creator Says He Considered Quitting Over The War Z
We’ve all been hearing a lot lately about the fiasco surrounding The War Z, a zombie combat survival MMO that was released in alpha, popped onto Steam without all its features plugged in, and otherwise surrounded in controversy.
But there’s also the part where The War Z is a flagrant rip-off of Day Z, the ArmA II mod created by Dean “Rocket” Hall. The existence of The War Z and all the controversy surrounding it has had implications for Day Z too, and the standalone retail version of the mod Hall has been working on with ArmA creator Bohemia Interactive. It’s been so trying, Hall said on a recent Reddit post, that he considered quitting the games industry.
“I’ve been pretty depressed about the whole situation,” Hall wrote. “From a personal standpoint, this whole ‘saga’ of the development made me seriously question if I wanted to be involved in the industry and I gave serious thought to cutting my losses and not being involved in the project.”
Thankfully, it seems as though Hall hasn’t decided to cut his losses, however, and work on the standalone Day Z continues. However, promised updates on its progress won’t be coming until the new year, Hall says.
