Day Z Standalone Could Be Turned Into Console Version

Excellent news for mod lovers everywhere. Announce this week, the much beloved – and critical darling – ArmA 2 mod Day Z has been such a tremendous success creator Dean Hall is turning it into a stand alone PC game. In case you missed it, the announcement was made publicly and repeated on the official site:

That’s right, this is actually happening – DayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me {Creator Dean Hall} as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive. This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago.

Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.

We already know about the increased size of the standalone. Hall also spoke about the possibility of a console version of the game, clarifying that the PC game is their focus and that it must stand alone, however, should it sell well enough, it would of course make a console version possible and even likely.

Here’s hoping they get to make it happen. Cheers, guys.

Not on the ArmA III engine. Consoles won’t be able to handle that.

Can you see the CoD Kiddies and Halotards playing something like DayZ? Yeah, me neither.
