DayZ Bounty Will Pay Real World Money
DayZ Bounty is an odd duck. A community of players created, in their words, “to create a mature, friendly, & cheat-free community through more realistic and competitive gameplay,” it features 24/7 live admins, a host of anti cheating measures, and surprisingly, real world cash prizes for kills in the game.
The good folks at PC Gamer spoke to the DayZ Bounty people about all of that, and what they found is fascinating. For starters, the goal isn’t to get rich. “We’re not trying to make money. It’s hard to explain that,” DayZ Bounty Creative Lead Jake Stewart told them. “I consider it like playing skins in golf,” he added. “Almost like a VFW or a Rotary club, where everyone has a say. Everyone has input. Everybody understands where everybody’s at and where all the money is going. We can vote on things. The community can take a vote on it and we go from there. That’s kind of what we’re getting at—having a huge involvement with everybody. If you pay your five dollars, you’re part of what we’re doing.”
That’s… kind of cool. There’s plenty more to their discussion, of course, and you can read it here.
