DayZ Could Be a Standalone By Christmas, With New Features

The work on zombie apocalypse mod Day Z is continuing even now, and it’s progressing toward an overall goal: a standalone game.

That’s according to the mod’s creator, Bohemia Interactive’s Dean Hall, who told VG247 the work on the standalone title could be finished by the end of the year. Of course, that shouldn’t imply that Day Z is anywhere near “done” — it isn’t. Hall says there’s still a lot to be done before DayZ will be able to command any kind of price tag, to say nothing of the work to be done to actually get it out to retail on its own.

On the plus side, that means Hall is working on adding new features to the mod, among which are base-building and ragdoll physics.

“I want to see it become a standalone game, following the Minecraft model of a low price point, but that will only work if we say that everyone is going to pay,” Hall said.

Sounds good to me.
