DayZ Standalone Dev Update – Comparison Screenshots

DayZ lead dev Dean Hall updated us on his developer blog about the status of the standalone version of everyone’s favorite zombie mod.

Apart from some lighting and material improvements, as well as a volumetric cloud system to add a sense of realism, the devs are working on character and weapon customization, as well as a new server architecture that will function like servers in other MMO style games. The server will control the behavior and the sending of updates, which means game updates will no longer be downloaded to players’ systems — this should result in fewer cheats (or at least a more difficult time for hackers).

The devs have begun internal closed testing and have been working with Valve to ensure that the new server browser system is working.

Here’s an animated comparison gif showcasing the new graphics, courtesy of Reddit user WhiteZero:

Quite pretty…

But I hope they’ll also fix the horrendous lag & disconnect. Also the damn fast zombies that you can’t aim propely with a gun because its movements are too erratic…
