DC MOBA Infinite Crisis Debuts Batman Halloween Skins
Turbine’s free-to-play MOBA Infinite Crisis (currently in closed beta) may be a League of Legends clone, but one thing it has going for it is pulling from alternate universes to put fascinating spins on well-known DC Comics superheroes.
Not only can you play the regular heroes like Superman, Flash and The Joker, but you can also rush into the fray as heroes from these alternate worlds with entirely new sets of abilities.
Atomic Wonder Woman, for example, is a chainsaw-wielding urban warrior from a post-nuclear world war alternate universe, and Arcane Green Lantern hails from an Earth plunged into permanent medieval darkness by a cabal of malevolent sorcerers. Now, Turbine is taking its hero customization one step further by offering different looks (aka skins) for these characters.
In honor of Halloween, two new skins have been released to the closed beta players. Those who own Batman can purchase the High Seas Batman skin to present the Dark Knight as Black Pirate Batman. And for Nightmare Batman, the Revenant Nightmare Batman skin will transform the vampiric hero into something even more horrifying.
The addition of themed skins is not unexpected, as most free-to-play MOBA’s make a great deal of money from skin sales (as well as champion sales). And making the skins available for a limited time only makes them even more desirable — although the time restriction on the sale of the skins may not be so limited, considering the game is still in closed beta. For example, Riot recently announced that many of their limited-time skins are making a comeback to cater to newer players who missed them the first time around. And Turbine seems to be taking most of its cues from that mammoth moneymaker, despite its claims of adding a new spin to the crowded MOBA genre.
