D3Publisher of America has announced that their critically-acclaimed PSP title, Dead Head Fred, has been nominated for the first ever Videogame Writing Award from the Writers Guild of America. The game was penned by writers Dave Ellis and Adam Cogan, who crafted the story of Fred Neuman, a private investigator who finds himself without a head following a murder and a bizarre experiment. Fred then travels through a strange alternate version of the 1940′s that’s rife with Tiki warriors, the undead, and other strange characters.
“D3PA congratulates Dave, Adam and the team at Vicious Cycle who brought Dead Head Fred to life, to use an ironic turn of phrase,” said Peter Andrew, vice president of product development, D3PA. “It was the game’s unique story and resulting gameplay mechanic, distinctive characters and twisted and sarcastic humor that first convinced us that we wanted to bring this title to gamers, and we appreciate the WGA for recognizing it with a nomination for their very first Videogame Writing Awards.”
We’ll have to find out if Dead Head Fred wins the award when the WGA Awards are handed out on February 9th.

It’s great to see the game recognized like this. It was overlooked by so many people, but it’s a really great game.
PSP owners — check the bargain bins. This is definitely worth owning.
