Dead Rising 2: Case Zero Walkthrough

Looking for the information about the full game, not the DLC? Click here for our step-by-step guide to Dead Rising 2!

Priced at a mere 400 Microsoft Points, Dead Rising 2‘s Case Zero DLC punches above its weight. Commissioned by executive producer Keiji Inafune (of Mega Man and Onimusha fame) as both a demo and prequel, the software will introduce gamers to Dead Rising 2 protagonist Chuck Greene, he of frosty glare and frosted tips. Trapped in the arid, Undead-infested town of Still Creek (2 years after the events of the original Dead Rising), Greene must defend his daughter Katey from the zombie onslaught, introducing players to the game’s key mehanics (like item combination¬† — see above) and enabling them to get a¬† head-start on abilities, items, and experience up to level five.

Maybe more importantly, Case Zero is the storytelling bridge that connects the first installment to its sequel, filling us in on the carnage that transpires between Frank West (Photojournalist)’s escape from Williamette Mall and the Fortune City-based mayhem that Greene will indulge in later this Fall. Get going on your way to Vegas (avoiding Bat Country, perhaps), with this step-by-step walkthrough.

THANK YOU!

They certainly don’t ease you into the experience, I couldn’t find two of the parts

oh and by the way, you CAN in fact use other weapons while carrying the gasoline can for the motorcycle, it stores in your inventory just like other small items, I used a baseball bat while carrying it in my playthrough

You can also make the chainsaw paddle…

J.G.

On August 31, 2010 at 12:33 pm

You also need to make the paddlesaw to get the :A Bigger Taste…” achievement. You can obtain the paddlesaw by combining the paddle and the chain saw. That paddle is located across the street from the gas station, to the right of the building that is on the right side of the police station. And the chainsaw is located in Big Buck Hardware.

Was a pretty easy and short game really but was pretty fun, only looked on here to find the gas can for the bike, nearly kicked myself when i found out where it was. Anyways guide seems pretty good

Danny

On August 31, 2010 at 2:30 pm

There are actually 9 weapons, the paddle saw is available to make, the paddle is located around the building next to the sheriffs office, not to hard to find once you know where to look :)

just noticed people have pointed this out already, my bad, internet being a douche as ever

Sorry about that guys – totally couldn’t find that Kayak Paddle, to the point that I wasn’t sure it actually existed in Case Zero. Just located it and dropped it onto the walkthrough. Sorry about that.

Awesome guide! I’ve been using it all dayand I’ve reached 150 achievements. I just need to get the other three. Any idea how to get $100,000 to spend on the pawn shop though?

On August 31, 2010 at 4:54 pm

HOW DO YOU UNLOCK THE HUNTING STORE? Is there a key I need?

MrRossums

On August 31, 2010 at 5:18 pm

@BBR you have to make the things yourself. so if you obtained a card by killing the boss or buying one at the pawn you still need to make them by hand to get the 20G
@laakkonen
you have to get up onto the rooftops (were the redneck survivor is)
and make your way from rooftop to rooftop

Brad

On August 31, 2010 at 9:45 pm

To get the 100,000$ achivment its just over time like for every play through. and there is no key for the hunting shack, you have drop down from the roof

whitek26

On August 31, 2010 at 9:57 pm

Hot tip for Jed – very easy to kill if you grab the sniper rifle off the roof of the safe house and stay the hell away. Takes MAYBE 15 bullets to kill him at lvl two.

Will

On August 31, 2010 at 10:11 pm

A bigger taste… achievement does NOT have to happen all in 1 Play through I just achieved it now when i restarted the story.

On August 31, 2010 at 10:15 pm

If you talk to the girl again after saving her, she asks you to get her jewels. These are back in the roadblock, next to a red car. They will glitter for easy to see convenience. Be careful, they are a weapon and can be thrown away and used up. Take them back and hand them to her for $15k

DCR Hellhound

good guide and if anyone has found the gems please post where they are.

How do you unlock the Sheriffs office?

Tom

On September 1, 2010 at 6:35 am

To get the locksmith achievement you need to have to pawn shop opened.

Pitxur

On September 1, 2010 at 7:03 am

gems are in the right front door (the door is broken) of a car. the have the weapon icon, do not enter the camp

Adam

On September 1, 2010 at 7:26 am

can’t get the battery it isn’t there?

Josh

On September 1, 2010 at 7:53 am

Hit the casino every time you pass it after a loading screen for easy cash. Just take a weapon in there and bash the slot machines and ATMs. You’ll make money to spend at the pawn shop in no time.

MrRossums

On September 1, 2010 at 8:33 am

@AudeT
theres a back door to the police station
took me ages until i looked at the map and seen a backdoor
=/

JD

On September 1, 2010 at 9:07 am

climb out the windows in the hall upstairs in the hotel. That way you can get to the hunting store easier then climbing around the front of the hotel and casino.

WIll

On September 1, 2010 at 11:21 am

Gems are in the military area. Not in the camp itself but if you walk between the two rows of casrs you’ll find them on the ground next to a yellow car with a missing door.

Reaper

On September 1, 2010 at 12:01 pm

gemini’s gems are back by the roadblock walk on the right side of the flaming truck until you see a yellow car they are on the ground this will give you another 15000 if you return them to gemini which helps get the small town deep pockets achievement or can be combined with a flashlight to create a lightsaber

On September 1, 2010 at 12:45 pm

Is anyone else having difficulty getting Bob to flag you down for side missions? I managed to rescue all the survivors and waited around for him to tell me about his daughter. He didn’t and my daughter got zombified :(

Matt

On September 1, 2010 at 3:20 pm

Hint about the slot machines…what ever ones have mone infront of them r winners..play these ones 5 times for 300 each win an then smash them all for another 900 with each set of 3 machines

Matt

On September 1, 2010 at 3:21 pm

money that is sorry

ThatAmirGuy

On September 1, 2010 at 4:28 pm

Small Town, Deep Pockets;
You can get easy money in the casino.
Before you enter, there is $200 and when you are inside, you can smash the slot machines.
DO NOT SMASH THE BARNYARD BONANZA MACHINES YET.
Instead gamble $500 and in return you will get $1500; profit of $1000.
Do this with the 3 sets of Barnyard Bonanza machines. Once done, you can smash all the machines and the ATMs.
You should collect $1100 from the ground itself and $9400 from the the machines including the winnings.
Total = $10500.
Fight your way back to the Safe Room so you can trigger the loading screen.
Go back out and rinse and repeat until you have $100000.
Takes around 15-20 minutes, depending on how quickly you can get past the zombies.
Happy killing :)

Where can I find another zombrex without buying it from the pawn shop? I used the one i found in the ambulance to that one .

ThatAmirGuy

On September 1, 2010 at 4:43 pm

@Nick Shull.
You can only get it from the pawn shop after you have collected it from the ambulance.
Sorry dude.

if you could read you would have seen that he didnt have it there to begin with. and he explained that he will add it. but he still has it list as 8 weapons and it is nine. there is a sword on top of the roof of the resraunt on the auning.

Levi

On September 2, 2010 at 9:17 am

after you save Gemini and fausto, speak to gemini and she will ask you to find her gems. They are next to a car at the roadblock. If you return them she will give you another $15,000 dollars.

Levi

On September 2, 2010 at 9:17 am

Also you get a boost to your pp with the fulfillment bonus.

Term180

On September 2, 2010 at 11:24 am

To quickly kill 1000 zombies, I recommend using the crate that the framework of the bike is in, provided to you after you grab the Zombrex in the beginning-

The crate cannot be destroyed, since it contains the first real “part” of your bike, so you can just keep pushing it down the street, (using the X button) mowing down zombies at will.

(alternatively, you can lift it and throw it at groups of zombies- that’s the best strategy if you take it past the Quarantine Zone)

I was able to easily obtain the achievement by 2:27PM game time using this method, though I’m sure there are other methods, this is the most efficient in terms of effort vs outcome, since the zombies, for the most part won’t grab you while you’re pushing the crate, and you’ll never have to waste time looking for another weapon.

On September 2, 2010 at 8:20 pm

I always use the sniper rifle found on top of the gas station to kill Jed. It lets me keep my distance and its easy to aim since the game tends to auto-correct your fire to some degree. Also, I like to take the beer ha nto the fight for easy, portable health.

Dave

On September 3, 2010 at 6:03 am

I need to save bob and his daughter but bob never tells me that he has seen her in the store. Saved everyone else except these two. what’s the matter?

Zep

On September 3, 2010 at 7:44 am

you can also get the 1 000 zombie kills easily with the cart with the bike in it, it has an unlimited kill ability, iv tested it my self, that thing wont break XD

groundz

On September 3, 2010 at 3:15 pm

As soon as the zombies turn red eyed at 7pm bob will wave you down to go get his daughter so you have to make sure you got all the weapons you’ll need for jed before this cause that hour ingame goes by super fast. I took two machine guns and three shotguns with me to fight jed and it worked great for me, don’t know if you’ll have the same success but good luck

Cliff

On September 3, 2010 at 3:34 pm

This game is broken, I followed your guide exactly and Bob never waves at me to tell me to save his daughter and it’s 6:45…I’m gonna kill Bob, but how do I save everyone next time if Bob won’t tell me what I need?

Robert

On September 3, 2010 at 9:15 pm

do you guys know anything about getting the gems or the survivor??? Gusto’s woman is crying if you talk to her she says she left her gems by the roadblock and will give you the rest of her winnings if you get her them.

Ben

On September 4, 2010 at 1:20 pm

For everyone that isn’t getting Bob’s mission – have you unlocked Bob’s store? I haven’t tested it, but it makes sense that his daughter won’t go into the store if it’s locked.

CLD

On September 5, 2010 at 2:36 am

GLITCH: not sure if the items you find carry over to the next game, but if you buy a zombrex from the pawn shop, immediately hit B on the item again like you were to buy a second, and a second will fall out for free.

CC

On September 5, 2010 at 7:28 pm

For everyone asking about Bob and his daughter: you will NOT be able to do this rescue after you complete the bike. It must be done BEFORE.

Houston

On September 5, 2010 at 8:56 pm

This games is awesome truly outstanding and hey to get in to the gun store u have to climb to where bob is then jump to the half stairway leading to the hotel you should land on the concrete then look directly adjacent to the building so you see a generator jump to it then jump on the building got forward to the step up and go to the edge look to your left then jump on the awning the proceed to jump on the roof on the other side then your there thanks

RazorsEdge

On September 5, 2010 at 10:05 pm

You can save Bob and his daughter after you’ve completed your bike. I just did. When he waves to you at 7 pm, just go talk to him. That’s it. Secondly.. On my first playtrough i didn’t unlock the hunting store beforehand, and the rescue mission still triggered. So it doesn’t matter either.

James

On September 6, 2010 at 1:41 am

First of all, what a terrific guide! This prequel was just enough to give us a taste of things to come.

Second of all, I just wanted to share with everyone (if you didn’t already know) that there is a second location with shotguns. In the gunshop, against the wall, there are glass cases. Bust them to find a few shotguns to add to the fun.

Tobias

On September 6, 2010 at 4:55 pm

Heres a fun way to kill 150 zombies.
1.find a queen.
2.go to the diner, mix milk & pie in the blender, which will make zombait.
3.climb on a car & drink zombait, wait until it runs out – by now you should have quite a crowd around you.
4.Throw that queen!!
-I had 175 zombie kills with one hit,I return to the diner every time I find a queen and repeat.

Thank you so much!

In ase no one else mentioned it, sorry if they did. You can keep the cart with the bike in it and drive it around to the places you need to go to get your achievements and to do the casino trick (thanks by the way for that) You could also use it to help you get 1000 kills.

ur welcom

Aaron

On September 6, 2010 at 10:17 pm

ok so people did say to use the cart for kills. sorry for repeating it.

Fantastic DLC, kept me amused for many hours. Only thing I thought it lacked was spoken dialog from the survivors.
Is Dead Rising 1 as fun as this? Thinking of buying.

Nomad

On September 25, 2010 at 7:50 am

Awesome prologue to Dead Rising 2… Dead Rising 1 is pretty good, however is only in a mall.. like the whole game…But anyways.. Looking forward for more on Dead Rising 2! CHEERS

Xero

On September 25, 2010 at 8:12 pm

Dead Rising 1 is fun… kinda. Save points are scattered, and you only get 1 save game, so if you screw up and can’t get someplace in time, it’s game over, you have to start all over again. Also, make sure you save OFTEN as when you die, you either go back to the begining or back to a save, just like this one.

i used the paddle saw and chopped one of the female zombies ass off and a B icon appeared over it so i picked it up i then gave it to the pawnshop owner and he gave me 100,000 for it, then he proceeded to tongue the stink hole and said he was so lonely these days
