Dead Space 3 Includes 4 Unlockable Modes, Including ‘Classic’

Much has been made about the inclusion of a cooperative mode in Dead Space 3, but horror fans might be excited to learn that there are unlockable game modes you’ll be able to access once you’ve beaten the game that bring you a more familiar experience.

According to a blog post by Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis, each of the four unlockable modes will be available on the disc. Classic mode, the most interesting of the haul, is single-player only and uses “classic aiming.” Papoutsis describes it as being for “the DS1 veterans out there” and notes that it doesn’t include the game’s crafting system, instead requiring that all weapons be constructed from blueprints found through the course of the story.

A New Game + mode will also be available, as has been in all the Dead Space games, which allows you to keep your equipment and stats and restart the story. Pure Survival Mode will be more geared toward a survival horror experience, making resource management tougher my removing all resources (that is, crafting materials, health and ammo) from the world so that they’re only found on killed enemies. Finally, Hardcore mode throws permadeath your way — you only get one life for the length of the campaign.

What do you guys think? Will these modes satisfy your horror requirements?

It’s definitely good news. I’ll wait until Gamefront has their review up to buy the game, but I’m not looking at DS3 as a lost cause anymore.

The Hardcore mode seems pretty rad, it made the Witcher 2 waaaay more enjoyable and exciting to play.
