Dead Space 3 PC – How to Unlock Your FPS

You’ve probably noticed something amiss while playing Dead Space 3 on your PC. Something that might not add up. No, not that you can farm items. That’s intended.

If you have a program that lets you see FPS, the problem becomes clear: Dead Space 3 defaults to 30 FPS, regardless of your monitor refresh rate! All that lovely hardware you bought isn’t being put to good use at such low framerates. Thankfully, much like the FOV fix, Visceral Games has given us a way to uncap our framerate without having to crack the game apart. It’s even easier than changing your FOV! However, it comes with the added risk of overheating vital components, as the framerate runs completely unchecked. Here’s a quick and easy guide to get those smooth framerates without busting your nice new video card.

How to Unlock Your FPS

  1. Open up your video settings in-game.
  2. Turn off Vsync. This can end up giving you framerates of over 120 FPS if you have a good system.
  3. Turn off the game.
  4. Go into your video card control panel.
  5. Turn on Vsync in your control panel (either globally or for Dead Space 3 specifically).
  6. Boot up Dead Space 3.
  7. Enjoy alien blasting at a smooth 60 FPS.

If you don’t turn on Vsync in the video card control panel, you can end up with rocky framerates, screen tearing, and even video card overheating. It’s not strictly necessary, but it’s worth it.

Who cares. It’s a console port for PC anyhow.A major disappointment.

I really doesn’t matter that its capped at 30 FPS anyways. The reason its capped is because it was made for 30 FPS. If you look at other console games you’ll notice the same thing. Wind Waker on Gamecube was capped at 30 FPS, but it plays like a smooth 60 FPS game because it was made for that FPS.

Same goes for Dead Space 3, ty console port really, but you won’t notice anything going from 30 FPS to 60, because the game wasn’t made with that FPS in mind. I guess a cool tweak though to “PUSH MY HARDWARE HUR DUR”.
