I’m hesitant to call a discount on a player for what has become a dead format a “deal.” But considering the existing HD DVD library isn’t half bad (how can you go wrong with Bourne?), an HD DVD player for $50 doesn’t seem like a bad way to temporarily fulfill your HD movie needs. The rumors have proven true, to an extent.
Microsoft may not be ready to announce what they’re going to do with the price of the 360′s HD DVD add-on, but Best Buy has already beaten them to the punch by listing the peripheral for $49.99 on bestbuy.com.
It should be able to hold you over until Blu-ray prices drop a little more… or at the very least, it’ll make Blu-ray owners feel that much more comfortable that they picked the winning side.
