Designers Brathwaite and Hall Cancel Kickstarter Campaign

A pair of veteran designers have decided to cancel their Kickstarter campaign, citing a weak pitch as the reason the project wasn’t resonating with potential backers.

Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall, two designers who have worked on titles such as Dungeons & Dragons, Doom and Commander Keen, were hoping to raise $1 million for Shaker: An Old School RPG, but so far have been able to pull in less than $250,000. With two weeks left in the campaign, the team decided it was time to shut down their Kickstarter and start over.

According to a story from Games Industry, Brathwaite and Hall have said their “pitch just wasn’t strong enough to get the traction it needed to thrive.”

The project had 7,581 backers and raised $247,498 at the time it was shut down, although, of course, none of those people will actually give any money toward the project (Kickstarter funding only goes to a project if it hits its funding goal in the time allotted).

In the latest update, however, the designers imply that they’ll be back, so fans disappointed with the turn of events will have another shot to back Shaker, or something else.

“Sure, it (the campaign) may have made it,” the last update on the project reads. “We could have fought our way to a possibly successful end. In reading your feedback and talking it over internally, however, we decided that it made more sense to kill it and come back with something stronger.”

Good! I wasn’t willing to back Shaker, but I still greatly respect the team, and I hope to back whatever they come up with next :D
