Destiny Beta Drew in 4.6 Million Players, Bungie “Blown Away”

Destiny’s recent beta was played by more than four and a half million gamers.

This information was revealed today in a release from Activision to celebrate the beta’s conclusion and success. According to the publisher, the beta drew in a grand total of 4,638,937 players across the four platforms (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One) hosting it. The game’s developers at Bungie, in turn, have understandably taken this to be a sign of good things to come for the full version which is set to hit stores on September 9th.

“We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta,” said Bungie COO, Pete Parsons in a statement. “We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”

The beta, of course, began earlier this month on the PS3 and PS4 earlier this month on July 17th. The Xbox 360 and Xbox One beta followed shortly after on July 24th. Both betas came to an end earlier this week on July 27th.
