Destiny May Offer Microtransactions

By playing a game for hundreds of hours, it’s possible for a player to accrue every weapon, attachment and upgrade. That being said, most gamers just don’t have the time to play a single game for that amount of time. To that end, Bungie may be looking to implement microtransactions into their upcoming action RPG/first person shooter, Destiny.

While Bungie did not explicitly confirm to what extent it planned to implement microtransactions—or even that it would do so—the studio did not deny it when asked by a fan. Bungie wrote the following response to a fan’s question about whether he would be outdone with players with more cash:

What we can tell you right now is that the rewards you will gain by playing Destiny – and playing it well – will be earned. You will carve them from the hides of your enemies, after you stomp them into the ground of your favorite destinations.

It certainly sounds like the game will have microtransactions, but that it will be possible for players to earn their way to greatness by playing the game as it’s intended. It wouldn’t be the first Activision game to sport the practice.

In contrast, Titanfall’s developers said, straight up, that they had no intention to ‘nickel and dime’ gamers with microtransactions.

They know gamers hate microtransactions, but put them in any way. Why aren’t they listening? I think monetizing rewards is the worst way to break immersion and they know it. EA might have its crown taken if they ARE careful.
