Deus Ex Developer Admits Game’s AI “Not Perfect”

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been getting some pretty strong review scores. Still, no one has claimed it’s a perfect game, and one of the big complaints we’ve heard so far is that the AI is somewhat lacking. It’s a complaint that Eidos has heard, and that at least one developer, Game Director Jean-Francois Dugas, agrees with to some extent.

Speaking with Play Magazine, Dugas said,

I’d be lying if I said the AI meets all of our expectations but I think it’s normal that every developer has something they’d like to do differently. That being said, when you look at the type of game we’re making, where stealth and combat need to cohabit as naturally as possible, I think overall gamers will be satisfied with what we did. It’s not perfect but it makes for interesting gameplay situations.

Our review mentions that the AI is somewhat lacking, but having played the game myself, I can say that it’s not a major detriment to the game as a whole. In fact, it somewhat conveys the feel of the amateur bad guys you’re up against in early parts of the game. However you take it, Human Revolution is still one of the better games we’ve played this year.

Better than Diakatana’s AI?

No game is perfect. You have to weigh the small problems with boss fights, AI, stiff animation with brilliant game design, story, gameplay, art direction. This is a game you should play. Its a mature thinking RPG game that lets play it so many ways. I see myself going back over and over again trying different things. Trying different tactics. This is a keeper and I would never trade it in. I can easily come back and enjoy this game some years from now and get another 40hours enjoyment out of it. All for just $60. If all games were of this quality, $60 is not bad at all. In fact is a deal. you can`t get this much enjoyment out of $60 anywhere else.
