      1. You will now be given the choice between a lethal or non-lethal mission strategy. If you choose lethal you will then be given the choice between a close-range revolver or a long-range combat rifle. If you choose non-lethal the options are either a close-range stun gun or a long-range tranquilizer rifle.
      2. Choosing a lethal assault will make it easier to put enemies down for good, but it also allows for the innocent to get caught in the cross-fire. Choosing a long-distance weapon will require more patience and accuracy, but lowers the odds of accidentally hitting characters who aren’t a threat.
      3. For the purposes of this walkthrough, my choice was a lethal assault to permanently put the enemies down and a long-ranged weapon to avoid the risk of killing hostages, but you can make the choice based on your own specific combat style.
      4. After the cut scene, enter the door guarded by the police officers and move forward through the hallway. You can watch the tutorial on using the menus if necessary. Talk to the first SWAT officer you encounter to activate the cut scene.
      5. Scroll through and choose from the various questions to learn more about the situation, then enter the door at the end hall marked EXIT. Climb down the pair of ladders to your left and watch the tutorial video on confronting guards if need be.
      6. Crouch down and sneak up behind the guard around the next corner, then follow the on-screen button commands to disable him non-lethally. Continue forward and enter the first door on your left to have the option of watching a tutorial video on stealth.
      7. Pick up the ammo on the ground and exit the room, then move around the corner ahead and take cover behind the nearby crates. Wait for the enemy in the distance to walk towards you and then over to the left before continuing forward.
      8. Sneak up on the next guard and disable him. If you want to remain covert, drag his body out of sight and continue using silent takedowns on each of the guards ahead until the area is clear. You can also choose to take cover behind the nearby crates and eliminate the enemies with your weapon.
      9. Achievement/Trophy Unlocked: First Takedown (Bronze): Perform your first Takedown.
      10. Make sure to check on top of crates and on the ground for ammo and other items. You can also search the bodies of each guards for specific supplies.
      11. Move up the staircase on the right and enter the building, then take cover beneath the broken window on your right and either sneak up on each guard one by one to eliminate them or engage in an open fire fight. If you decide on the stealthier tactic, remember to drag the bodies out of sight and close any doors you open.
      12. Once the area is clear, use the ladders to check the upper levels for supplies. You can also enter the office in the corner of the room across from where you first entered to access the computer for more story information. When you have everything you need, move down the stairs in the far left corner of the area.
      13. Move into the next room ahead and disable the nearby guard, then take out any remaining threats and search the desk area for supplies. Move up the stairs around the corner to enter the next area and eliminate the guard in the hallway ahead and in the room to your right.
      14. Head down the hall towards the Sarif Industries sign and make your first left down the hall, then enter the next door on the right and search the lockers for various supplies. Exit the room the way you came and continue down the corridor.
      15. Hop over the table instead of passing through the metal detector and watch the tutorial video on hacking if need be. Approach the panel on the left side of the next door and hack the system to open it.
      16. Achievement/Trophy Unlocked: First Hack (Bronze): Perform your first Hack successfully.

      1. Move forward through the decontamination door and take cover behind the railing to survey the room. You can either take out the guards or wait until you have the opportunity to move down the stairs to the right without being seen. If you decide to eliminate the guards you can search the area more thoroughly for supplies and pick up the machine pistol as a weapon
      2. Once you are at the ground floor, turn around to get under the stairs and remove the crate that blocks the vent. Move through the air shaft and climb the ladder, then make your way across the narrow pathway to the opposite side of the room.
      3. Open the vent and use the duct to access the room with the hostages. and hack into the bomb on the desk to disarm it. If you try to enter or exit the room through the doorway the bomb will activate and you will only be given a few seconds to disarm the bomb safely.

      1. Return to the main area and make your way down the steps, then enter the assembly line room that’s beside you. Watch the tutorial on security systems if necessary and take cover behind the crates by the next hallway on your right.
      2. Wait until the guard has moved as close to you as possible and turns his back, then disable him and drag him out of the security camera’s line of sight. Now you can move underneath the green laser beams without being detected and continue down the hall.
      3. Make your last available right, then go down the hall to your left and hack the next door ahead. Move through the next door after being decontaminated and take cover behind the crates in front of you.
      4. Wait until the coast is clear, then move under the staircase to your left and enter the ventilation shaft by pushing aside the crates. When the guard in the next room turns his back, open the grate and disable him.
      5. Pick up any supplies you can find in this area, then exit back into the larger room and clear out the remaining enemies. Enter the elevator that leads to the server room and push the button to reach the next floor. You can now upgrade your augmentations before moving on.
      6. Make a left down the hall and enter the vent behind the crate to your right, then move through the duct to the next area. Enter Server Room A1 and open the door ahead on the right to complete the mission.

Great guide! Definitely getting this game. My type of game. Serious mature real world storyline. Not the convoluted rolling your eyes Final Fantasy or MGS4 Japanese storyline. A thinking man’s RPG. The guide is going to be very helpful in starting the game so you get the most out of playing it. Thanks!

Its too bad they don’t let you keep your weapons and ammo in game+.

After several playthroughs I would have like to just fool around in the gaming environment. Use bazookas for the lonely guard, npcs etc. Just push the boundaries of the game and fool around. There’s no multiplayer to keep bringing me back and after 3-4 playthroughs I would have been nice to go guns blazing. I had fun replaying Resident evil 5 with infinite bazooka and ammo. Putting this would have been another incentive to keep replaying to get a infinite ammo bonus or something. Maybe they’ll change it or a DLC

This was useful… But it depended on being able to hack things and when I try to look up the passcodes they don’t come up for the ‘TNNLHUB’ computer. As I have no hacking skill at all, this walkthrough became useless to me when it told me to hack something =’[

It’s a great walkthrough, just not suited to everyone.

I killed if I only absolutely had to, used tranq rifle and non-lethal take-downs most of the time, except for when malik was being attacked, and quests that required someone to die, like rotten business, and a few other times I used lethal force I probably forgot, I played the game realistically.

    @Joseph:

Why are you comparing this to MGS or FF? MGS is a similar-game but is more story driven, and FF is on the other end of the spectrum. The storylines in all the Deus Ex games have been very weak, and are great for people who like popcorn movies like yourself, instead of something that contains a rich narrative. This isn’t a ‘thinking’ game due to its design of being able to beat the game without using a single augmentation. Any idiot can do it, like yourself.

Actually go on the roof and look left jump ontop of the dryer vents and work you way to the buulding across from the roof you start on from there you can punch through a wall kill an enemy in the process and take out another down the hall you will find no were to go unless you have a landing upgrade which i dont so on the left is an old elivator shaft with a shotgun in it pick that up and jump down.

How the heck do you know when you can punch thru a wall? I’ve got the augmentation, and so far after 90hrs., I’ve had no luck……And for killing Bill, I’ve started over a dozen times trying to stock up, and that big sob still gets me.

Great guide =] anyways…just thought I’d let you know I found a way to walk through the front doors of the hive everytime without having to pay. If you examine the rooms of the Hung Hua hotel you should find a hive membership card. The bouncer will let you in like you’re a regular…not that it is absolutely necessary…just another option =]

LOL MGS had a good storyline compared to this? If you say so…either way this game isnt really all that much of a prequel. It’s just a better made version of the first game. If you played this game without hacking then you probably missed out on about 50% of the content and upgrades. Stealing that MEPS gun from the police lockup was the best boost in the whole game for non-killers like myself. That gun was essential in keeping Malik alive by taking out both heavy gunners with one shot after sprinting up while invisible..then it was just take out the combat riflers with the stun gun, meps or just punch em. Between gas grenades and emp grenades i dont think i had a mech last longer than 5 sec after i cycled through my gear.

Jenson’s voice, and sometimes his mannerisms, reminds me of Clint Eastwood.

Has anyone registered this game with Square Enix?

I haven’t. At least not yet. I read the legal stuff one had to sign up to first. Put me right off.

i’m not sure im getting achievements so i jsut wanted to see them because it doesnt appear on bottom of my screen when i supposed to get them for example after first takedown or after first ghost. (i get ghost exp at left of screen but no achievement)

someone please explain me how it works. thanks

This is the best walkthrough I have found yet for this game. Of course, as you mentioned, there are many desk drawers and hidden areas to search, and sometimes valuable information and items can be found this way. It is very time consuming, however.

One of the most amazing things in the game that I discovered, was that I could take control of turrets, and carry them around with me from floor to floor, and even carry one down on the funicular to protect me in the lower level of Picus Communications. It even attacked the robot at the bottom of the stairs and destroyed it for me. No other game I have ever played has allowed me to do something like this.

I now have played through the game three times. The first time, I used a combination of lethal and non lethal weapons. I then played it and was able (with much difficulty), to go completely non lethal Except for the boss fights, of course. The last time, I tried to hunt down and kill every enemy in the game, using only lethal weapons. The most difficult fight in the game for me was trying to save Malik in non lethal mode.

This game has captured my attention as much as the original Doom and Quake games I played many years ago, and I consider it to be in the top 5 of all the hundreds of games I have ever played since I started many years ago. It has prompted me to buy the original Deus Ex, and now I am playing it to compare the two.
