The Wire on RiottBeta One Will Rise sponsors writer Paul Semel’s blog. The latest entry is an interview with Sony Online Entertainment FreeRealm‘s Producer Bruce A. Ferguson and Lead Designer Laralyn McWilliams. There are some new details to add to the FreeRealms write up published last week.
McWilliams says game play will be varied and will offer progression, loot, and titles that should appeal to casual players and hard core MMO gamers alike. Commands will be as simple as possible to alleviate the tedium of learning key commands or reading lots of text. She also says FreeRealms will maintain a lighthearted comedic element sighting Shrek and other visual comedy as an influence.
Ferguson says free accounts will be ad-based. Users will have to pay to get rid of the banner ads displayed at the top of their screens. FreeRealms will also employ micro transactions and additional content like similar systems in Europe and Asia.
The game should be available for a lower monthly cost than most MMOs.
McWilliams says, “Whether you are playing it for free or for that low subscription cost, you’re still getting a game that has had just as much time and money spent on it as “EverQuest II.” This is just as important to us.”
FreeRealms will be out on the PC early this year
