Devolver Digital, Flying Wild Hog Working On New Shadow Warrior Game

If new images are any indication, Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog are working on a new Shadow Warrior game.

Just a few minutes ago, an anonymous tipster pointed us towards an unlocked FTP under the URL. The images within have a new Shadow Warrior logo, complete with a dead Yakuza member (see above). Below is the logo itself (also found here).

Along with the dead Yakuza and logo images are several PNG files with “Flying Wild Hog” in the title, which means the Hard Reset developer is presumably involved in the remake or sequel.

Furthermore, has what appears to be some concept art on the front page (in fact, it’s the same background as in the above image, but sans-dead Yakuza).

After the Blade Analyzer Pro appearance in Steam Greenlight yesterday, a new Shadow Warrior game was all but confirmed, but these new images seem to be the confirmation we’ve all been waiting for.

Originally released in 1997, Shadow Warrior is often named when we talk about golden age of FPS gaming in the 90′s, along with Doom, Duke Nukem, Rise of the Triad, and others. An iOS port was released last year, but there’s been no word of a remake or sequel…until now, that is.

Along with Rise of the Triad, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and Doom 4, it’s been the year of the 90′s FPS comeback so far — if you were gaming on the PC in the 90′s, chances are you’ll feel right at home in 2013-14.

…and if you haven’t seen it yet, the Blade analyzer video that started this whole asset hunt is embedded below. Enjoy!

Shadow Warrior was one of my favorite games in that era. Taking the Duke 3D formula and expanding it to include manned as well as remote controlled vehicles, the whole game was just insane. From caltrops to smoke bombs to dual uzis to a severed enemy’s head you jammed your fingers into the back of its skull to fire, the weapons were great fun.

I’m hoping they’ll take the trademark sword combat and do something along the lines of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance with it.

All I can think now is “Who want-a some ?”

“if you were gaming on the PC in the 90′s, chances are you’ll feel right at home in 2013-14.”

I doubt it. Most of these remakes are total crap that have none of the charm, depth or fun factor of the originals. X-COM comes to mind.

@psycros I agree many of these remakes are lacking in charm and fun factor, but depth? It’s not like those old games were much more then creative ways to blow sh!t up.
