Devolver Hates on Medal of Honor, Gives Away Free Serious Sam 3 Downloads

Over the course of the next week, Devolver Digital will be offering 100 free Xbox LIVE Arcade downloads for Serious Sam 3: BFE to fans who tweet or post on the Serious Sam Facebook page about their concerns surrounding “the stagnant modern military shooter,” calling out Medal of Honor: Warfighter, specifically.

In a blog post, the team said:

“During this busy season of video game releases the team at Devolver Digital realize that not every game will live up to expectations. One such game has been Medal of Honor: Warfighter – yet another military shooter where cover is king and most folks spend their time peeking out form behind a wall or a strategically placed concrete barrier.

“That shit is weak.”

You have to give Devolver props for having the balls to so blatantly call out another game like that.

YES!! FINALLY someone picks the perfect word for the stagnant modern AAA game: “Weak”. THEY ARE WEAK! We must all become indie HULKS and SMASH puny AAA games with GIANT GREEN FISTS!! Of innovation. Well, I was thinking just fists. SMASHING fists. Smash. :)

The FPS genre has a lot of legs left to it, but the whole ‘modern warfare’ thing is now almost as worn out as the WWII setting. You can expect with COD focusing more on its Black Ops series, EA will create MOH and Battlefield games in Vietnam as well. I’d like to see some shooters set in WWI (they probably exist already but I can’t for the life of me think of one), Kosovo, Checznya, the Korean War, the American Civil War, one of the countless African wars that have involved firearms, and some alternate timeline games like one where China is invaded after the Tiananmen Square massacre – which China would obviously do its best to prevent from being released. Hell, let’s see a Falklands game, which would both be relevant given Argentina’s recent whinging over the non-existent issue (you could even set it either in an alternative timeline where Argentina won the war and the UK is trying to reclaim the islands, or have it set today and say Argentina invades again), and would also be a really interesting change of location from the usual broken cities fallen from grace in the middle of Europe and the desert, to a tiny township surrounded by sea and near-Antarctic conditions. Just don’t let delusional Sean Penn direct it.

I had always felt the same way about certainl wars being completely overlooked. WW1 especially.

The closest solution I have for you is Darkest of Days. At least you get to use a musket! And the story isn’t half bad, either!
