Diablo 3 Confirmed for PlayStation 4, Safe Bet on Xbox One
The only thing stopping Blizzard from releasing an Xbox One version of Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition is the fine print.
In an interview with Videogamer on the eve of Reaper of Souls’ launch, Blizzard’s Alex Mayberry confirmed what many suspected: Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Diablo 3 are currently in development. Mayberry explained that Sony has already approved the project for the PS4 but Blizzard is still waiting to get official approval from Microsoft for the XB1
“I don’t know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can’t really comment on what that contract looks like,” Mayberry said. “The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.”
“We’ve already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. That’s just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out.”
Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition combines the original game and tomorrow’s expansion, Reaper of Souls. No release date on the complete Diablo 3 package just yet, but Mayberry did say, “it’s not far off.”
As a PC gamer and Diablo fan, I hate to say it, but with this news I might actually hold off on Reaper of Souls. Offline play on consoles is enough of an incentive.
