Diablo 3 Patch 1.04 Extends Level Cap, Changes Magic Find

Blizzard took to the Diablo 3 official site today to provide details on patch 1.04. Responding to player complaints about the lack of progression after reaching level 60, the Diablo devs are instituting a new “Paragon” system that will effectively double the game’s level cap. After hitting 60, players can earn up to 100 Paragon levels, which will each provide a small boost to core stats and a 3% bonus to magic and gold find, capped at a total of 300%. Blizzard hopes eventually to transition away from gear that boosts magic find entirely; this is the compromise solution. Players will still want to use magic find gear as they earn Paragon levels, but once they reach 100 (+300%) such gear will become obsolete. Stacking magic find buffs that result from Nephalem Valor will work as before.

Did we mention the borders? As if all that extra level-grinding wasn’t a reward in and of itself, earning Paragon levels will add fancy visual detail to the border of your character portrait, so all your party members will know what an incredible badass you are. Yeah, there are buffs to player classes and legendary items coming in 1.04 as well, but that’s just noise — check out that sweet golden wreath!!

The release date is not yet available — when it is, we’ll let you know.

Honestly, I’m done with Diablo 3…

Not like I’ve thrown the (virtual) ‘disk’ into the garbage, but more like I’ll probably take a look in 3, 6 months or a year to see how it has changed…

I’m still curious enough to read news & forums occasionally to see how Blizz is trying to keep D3 from sinking completely…
