Diablo 3: WIN-FINAL.MPQ + Stuck @ Updating Setup Errors Solved?
As the launch of Diablo 3 approaches and gamers begin the downloading of Diablo 3, two serious errors have been identified by frustrated fans. Fortunately, dedicated Diablo 3 players may have already discovered workarounds for both problems, and as a public service, we’re going to share them with you now.
First, the WIN-FINAL.MPQ error.
With this issue, the file “C:Program Files (x86)Diablo IIIUpdatesd3-0-9558-Win-final.MPQ” is corrupted. The recommended solution is to download the file again. To ensure this process happens correctly, posters to the Battle.net forums have suggested the following steps:
1. Deleted the MPQ file.
2. Downloaded the new game client (30mbs).
3. Ran the new game client (30mbs) as administer.
Battle.net forum posters are reporting you don’t need to download the setup from Battle.net a second time if you get the error. However, if this fix doesn’t work, the following steps are recommended:
1. Download the file from: http://blizzard.vo.llnwd.net/o16/content/d3-pod-retail/NA/8370.direct/Updates/d3-0-9558-Win-final.MPQ
2. Save it in your “Diablo IIIUpdates” folder, and then start the launcher again.
Second, the STUCK AT UPDATING SETUP FILES error.
With this error, you don’t receive an error message, you simply get stuck updating setup files and nothing happens. Some users have reported getting to 90%, then seeing ‘End argent in process tree’, followed by ‘LAUNCHING BLIZZARD LAUNCHER’, only to be returned to ‘Updating Setup Files’, at which point the loop repeats. Keen and Graev’s Gaming Blog has discovered a few fixes:
Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
Scroll down and find “Secondary Logon”
Right Click > Properties
Change it from ‘Disabled’ to ‘Automatic’
Run your Diablo 3 setup as administrator and it should quickly go through Updating Setup Files and bring you to an install screen. Congratulations, your game now (hopefully) works! If this solved your issue, spread it around.
Right click on the Diablo 3 setup file you downloaded via the Blizzard Downloader
Select Properties > Compatibility > Check Run this in Compatibility Mode for… > Choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) (Note: Does not work on Vista.)
Right Click the Icon, Run as Administrator.
Delete your C:ProgramDataBattle.net folder.
Delete your C:ProgramDataBlizzard EntertainmentBattle.net Cache folder.
Run the Downloader again, as administrator, and see if it gets past the “Updating Setup Files” window. If not, see Fix #1.
Fix #4 (Thanks Ron!)
This one worked for me: try and find the agent application in the battle.net folder (for example C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Dataattle.netAgent). Start the agent application manually and after that start Diablo III setup file in your Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer folder. Good luck!
Fix #4a – Clarification for Fix 4 by GarytheOak
1. Run the diablo insall thing… let it get stuck.
2. Close it, and ctrl+alt+delete and end the “Agent” process.
3. Go to C/programdata/battle.net/agent and run the “Agent” executable
4. Run the diablo install thing
5. WAIT! it will get stuck for a min or so and then work
