Diablo 3′s Final Act Will Be Its Shortest

Diablo 2 (sans expansion) was divided into four acts, with Act IV being the shortest by a mile. When probed about whether we can expect a repeat of this in Diablo 3, Bashiok, the Diablo 3 community manager, replied:

Whether Diablo II did it purposefully or not, we very much like the feeling of accelerating toward the end of the game with gradually shorter acts as you go. I can’t yet speak for actual play time vs. what Diablo II provided, although we aimed to hit the same amount of time, I think we’re quite a bit over. In any case, we want the player to accelerate toward the final conclusion, so the last act will certainly be the shortest.

At least it’s not a case of the developers becoming lazy toward the end, or running out of time and being unable to add all the content they’d hoped to. I certainly recall this feeling of acceleration in Diablo 2 — whether that added to my experience, however, escapes me.
