Diablo 3′s Popularity Ranking in Korea Plunges 8 Spots in One Week

South Korea has a reputation for worshiping Blizzard, with some of the most diehard StarCraft fans in the world. However, the country seems disenchanted with Diablo 3, as the game’s popularity is taking a nosedive.

According to GameNote, a South Korean website offering online game news, Diablo 3 is currently sitting at number 11 on the latest popularity ranking table, released August 1st. This is down eight spots from 3rd place as recorded a week earlier.

Blizzard Entertainment recently announced that it has added server capacity for the Asian region to stabilize the server glitches and delays that generated plenty of complaints from Korean users, but it seems like this was a case of too little, too late. At major online game communities, some users complained that “the server expansion should have been done much earlier.”

What does Blizzard have to do to make Diablo 3 rise in popularity once more? Will the eventual PvP patch be enough?

Given Korea’s loyalty toward Blizzard, it’s shameful that they didn’t put more resources into servicing that market. People expect to be able to play the games they buy, and when you stick always-on DRM in your game, you’d better make sure you’re ready to handle it.
