DICE Wonders Why People Expect PS3 Battlefield 3 to Look Like PC Version
Last night on the Jimmy Fallon show, the guys from EA Games showed off the first look at console gameplay for Battlefield 3. The game was running on a PS3, and looked pretty darn good for a console game.
As is ever the case, though, the internet immediately erupted with people bemoaning the footage and how it didn’t measure up to what we’ve seen from the PC version thus far. This prompted a Twitter message from Johan Andersson, developer and rendering architect at DICE, which read,
why would anyone expect that console would look the same as PC? if that was the case we would have failed with the PC version.
Also taking to Twitter was DICE’s general manager, Karl Magnus Troedsson, who said,
Of course, everything we show is pre-alpha… until we hit alpha.
We’ve embedded the video below so you can see for yourself how the PS3 demo looked on Fallon last night, but keep in mind that recreating the amazing visuals you see on PC really isn’t technically possible on the PS3 or the 360. Both of those consoles are far behind the current PC tech in both graphics and raw processing power.
Is it too much to ask for people to use just a modicum of common sense?
