Divinity: Original Sin Announces Launch Date With “Before and After” Trailer
Divinity: Original Sin has a firm launch date and a brand-new trailer showing off some of the enhancements to the game enabled by its successful Kickstarter.
Just shy of a year to the day that Larian Studios concluded a massively successful Kickstarter for its upcoming RPG Divinity: Original Sin, the studio has finally announced a launch date: June 20, 2014. It marked the moment with the release of a new “Before and After” trailer that thanks supporters and shows off a few snippets of how the game is better now than it was then.
The extra funds raised by the Kickstarter allowed the studio to implement “more of everything” – creatures, quests, skills, character development, companions and so forth – and also to dramatically upgrade the game’s visual elements. On top of that, Larian chief Swen Vincke said that feedback from a pool of more than 60,000 players was hugely helpful in improving the game.
“It’s something for which we at Larian are very grateful and it’s something for which future players should be grateful too, because the game experience they’ll get will be so much better because of all that feedback,” he wrote.
June 20 is actually a delayed launch date – the game was originally supposed to come out this past February – but Vincke said that “barring a disaster,” Divinity: Original Sin will make this schedule. “I know we lost a lot of credibility in the release date department, but this particular deadline is pretty much set in stone now, if only for the reason that if we postpone releasing again, we’ll be taking turns at the divorce lawyer,” he wrote. “Of course there’s also that other reason and that’s that we’re slowly approaching the stage where the game will actually be ready.”
