Don’t Fear the Reaper – New Guitar Hero Controller

Don

Very demonic looking artwork adorns the new wireless PS2 controller from React, which should make everyone’s inner Rock God spring forth and wreak havoc on the masses. *SIGH* Don’t I wish. The new “Reaper” controller features a Fender J-Bass body shape, black neck and skull graphics – no word on price but React says that it will be available at Best Buy stores sometime this month.

Sure, it is cool having a sweet looking Guitar Hero axe to impress your gamer buddies with, but would you honestly pay extra for that? With some contact paper and a few markers I can spice up your game controller in my basement for the sweet price of a bag of Cheetos and a case of Dr. Pepper. I never said it would look as cool as this one, or even good for that matter – I just said I could spice it up.

I am curious to hear other reviews. I bought this controller last week and I am not sure about the tilt feature to activate star power. It is difficult at best making me jerk, twist, wiggle and well – rock and roll all around. But not the smooth tilt feature from my wired Rock Guitar II controller. It reacts well in every other way.
The guitar is smooth and shiny, the buttons are smooth and react better than my other guitars. But it does not have the raised mark on the middle fret button. That I miss. The whammy is quite good on the Reaper.
One note: is that I have only used this guitar on the 80′s version. I am going to try it on I & II and see how it does. I don’t think that should affect the tilt feature but I guess you never know.

This is an update to my earlier post.

I have played this guitar with GH I & II and 80′s. The tilt feature still does not work well with any game. It works about 25% of the time.

NOW the strum bar gets stuck in the up position. The guitar is going back to Best Buy and I will look at other guitars.
Good luck with your Reapers.

I just purchased the Reaper and it works great. I do not have any problems with the tilt feature.

I have the same problem as the first response. the tilt just will not work. i am not happy with it at all. my girlfriend likes to use it because it is wireless, but i really wish that i had gotten another wirless model instead. everything else works great, it does take some getting used to though.

Okay, so I’m pretty oldschool myself and I have an old PS2.
Y’know, the kind that was the first to come out, it’s fat and black and old?
Yeah, that’s mine.
That is the same kind my friend has also.

We both got reaper guitars and both of them fail to work with our consoles.
None of the buttons or the strumbars work, except for the blue button that acts as the green button, and the yellow button which works as the red.

If anyone knows how to fix this, or if she and I are just doing something wrong, please tell me.

@ Niki:

I had a similar problem, what I did was started with the Reaper in Slot 2 and a controller in Slot 1, loaded the game and then moved the guitar to Slot 1 and it lit blue and everything worked correctly. I have a old fat launch PS2 so I suspect its just an issue with those early models.

Also try reconnecting the guitar and reciever once its plugged into Slot 1.

Its a great gitar once the PS2 picked it up as valid and working

Bought it for my son for Christmas. It worked initially in port 2 and had a GH2 wireless standard in port 1. Had issues getting the Reaper to connect but got it working. Then tried to put it in port 1 for single play. From that point on, it would not connect. Installed new batteries and still didn’t work. Returned it to port 2 and no connection. This Reaper looks cool but it’s the worst. I’ll get another standard. It’s a controller after all.
