Doom Beta To Require Xbox Live Gold, Not PS Plus
An Xbox Live Gold membership will be required to access Bethesda’s Doom beta on Xbox One.
Bethesda revealed this information in a new blog post on the official website for Wolfenstein: The New Order. Beta access is being rewarded to gamers who pre-ordered the game. Conversely, the company also revealed that players intending to use the beta on PlayStation 4 will not need a PlayStation Plus subscription.
“An Xbox Live Gold membership is required for the Xbox One beta,” said the blog post. “A PSN Plus membership is NOT required for the PlayStation 4 beta.” The blog post also confirmed that Doom (or the beta, at least) will only be releasing for PCs, Xbox One and PS4. Customers who pre-ordered the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions will, in turn, receive PS4 and Xbox One beta access.
The disparity in online access requirements mirrors other recent Bethesda titles, namely The Elder Scrolls Online. The publisher revealed back in January that the PS4 edition of the game will not require a PS Plus account, which is normally required on the console for online play. It also affirmed that the Xbox One edition would require a Live Gold membership.
Sadly, Bethesda has yet to announce when the Doom beta will actually begin. That said, Wolfenstein: The New Order is set to release on May 20th, 2014.
