Dota 2 International Championship Begins

The Dota 2 International Championship has begun, with a prize pool of a whopping $2.7 million in cash. The prize pool is expected to increase as more players purchase the Interactive Compendium almanac that Valve has on sale for the game. The prize pool increases by $2.50 per $10 purchase of the interactive scorebook.

As soon as it was launched, Steam was brought to its (very strong, we’re assured) knees with over 400,000 concurrent viewers within hours of going live, as players battled each other at Valve’s headquarters in Washington.

Participants in the event include 2011 International Champion Na’Vi from Ukraine, 2012 International Champion Invictus Gaming from China, and fan favorite of 2013, Alliance from Sweden.

The International 3 Main Event is set to run from August 7 and lasts through August 11 and will be streamed on Twitch.
