Dota 2′s International 2014 Prize Pool Has Broken $10 Million

Dota 2’s International 2014 championship has raised more prize money than the last Super Bowl.

The International 2014 prize recently broke $10 million thanks in no small part to the generosity of fans who have been donating their personal funds by buying a virtual Compendium item that payers will be able to level up to earn prizes over the course of the tournament. Certain rewards have also been unlocked as player’s contribute. The Compendium itself costs $10 to purchase, $2.50 of which goes toward raising the prize pool.

The championship’s prize pool will be used, of course, to reward the winning players of the International 2014 tournament. The tournament itself is being held in Seattle’s Key Arena and will run from July 18th to the 21st. Suffice it to say, it will be interesting to see just how high the prize rises by then.
