Double Fine More Than Doubles Kickstarter Goal Inside 24 Hours

It was only yesterday, Feb. 8, that Double Fine Productions announced it would use Kickstarter to fund a new adventure game called Double Fine Adventure, along with a documentary recording the process of the game‘s development. Double Fine founder Tim Schafer and Secret of Monkey Island collaborator Ron Gilbert notched a goal of $400,000 on the crowd-sourced fundraising website.

As of this writing, less than a day later, it has already seen $850,000 in pledges.

That means that Double Fine Adventures will definitely be happening, along with the documentary. Schafer has said on his Twitter feed (as well as on the Kickstarter page) that additional money will go toward adding additional crap to the game — like more platform support (including mobile in addition to PC support on Steam) and translations. The extra funds will also improve the documentary and could fund improvements to the game, such as additional voice over acting.

Schafer also said on Twitter that the Double Fine campaign has set a few Kickstarter records, including most funds raised in 24 hours and most backers on a project ever. Pretty cool.
