Double Fine Trademarks “The Cave”

On February 22, Double Fine Productions allegedly filed a trademark in the US for “The Cave.” Could this be the name of the Kickstarter point-and-click adventure game? Caves go hand-in-hand with adventure; spelunkers are some of the real world’s only “adventurers.”

The Kickstarter project has raised just under $2.3 million, and you can still have 14 days to pre-order a copy of the yet-unrevealed game for $15. According to Double Fine’s Tim Schafer, the title will feature voice acting, multiple translations and mobile versions.

Could “The Cave” be a spiritual success to “The Dig,” published by LucasArts in 1995? Or perhaps even a parody, which be more in Double Fine’s style?
