Dragon Age 2 DLC Development Canceled; Work Shifts to Series’ Future

BioWare has announced that development of new content for Dragon Age 2 has been canceled and that the entire team has been repositioned on “the next phase of Dragon Age’s future.”

Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah stated to the forums via proxy:

While we will still be keeping an eye out for any issues that might crop up in DA2 and supporting the community should any emergencies should arise, we’re moving the entire team’s focus to the next phase of Dragon Age’s future.

Darrah clarified on Twitter:

He went on to explain that a major DA2 project, titled Exalted March, was canceled:

Perhaps we’ll yet see Exalted March in the next DA title.

While I understand DA2 polarized the DA fan base and received harsh criticism, I enjoyed the game, and am sad to see it die this way. What does the future have in store for the series? Is “the next phase of Dragon Age’s future” Dragon Age 3, or will it be (dare I say it?) a Dragon Age MMO?

Are you excited for the future of Dragon Age, or did DA2 spurn you off the series entirely?

No, i’m looking forward on tthe Dragon Age future, i loved Dragon Age 2 and i hope Dragon Age 3 will be a full solo player story instead of a ing MMO.

Please no MMO.

Dragon Age 2 was getting better with the last two DLC’s, and the character interactions were always fun for me. If it wasn’t for the rehashed environments and the “it’s raining men” wave combat, it would have been a very good game imo. The main problem with the story is that it didn’t really address the questions raised at the end of DAO. It did raise some other questions though, which were quickly not addressed in the DLC. If they do another sequel, they really have to finish off these plot lines.

The cool thing about mysteries in general is that they get solved at some point. This is a problem with the DA series.

Hm. My basic problem with DA2 was the same as the one many folks are having with ME3: the final chapter seemed to have been rushed out the door, and resulted in an outcome where your choices had very little impact on the ultimate outcome.

And if they managed to address those issues via paid DLC (which I’ve never heard anyone claim), well…I guess we know what’s next for ME3!

Dragon Age was very good. Dragon Age 2 was pretty terrible. I am really getting into this Mass Effect 3 ending change thing because it looks like the developers are finally waking up and realizing they cannot continue to produce sub par games and rest on their laurels. It is very good time to be a gamer. We as the gamer/consumer pay these peoples bills and they need to learn to stop treating us like crap.

Moar Dragon Age please. I’m willing to give BioWare another chance.

I loved Dragon Age 1 and enjoyed 2, though I hated that you had to be human. It is to bad that there will be no more DLC for it.

So no more DLC for Dragon Age 2 and you’re working on Dragon Age 3?

hmm…maybe that’s a good thing that they cancelled it because maybe they want to extend hawke’s story just like in Assassin’s Creed series…the first game was with Altair Ibn’La Ahad, the next two where with Ezio Auditore da Firenze and the fourth where with both Altair and Ezio and now they change the character into Connor another past assassin…maybe it’s like this…the first was with The Hero of Ferelden, the second with Hawke, the third again with Hawke (because his story was not ended after the finish of DA2) and the fourth whit both Hero of Ferelden and Hawke (like Assassin’s Creed Revelations but not that cool)…think about it guys…if you think that we ended up with more questions about the storyline remember the Assassin’s Creed series…in those series 99% of the questions where answered in Assassin’s Creed Revelations…i think it would be very cool of they do the future games like Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed team did…tell me what you think and excuse me if my english is not understandible…
