Dragon Age 2 PC Saved Game Editor Hacks

Super-cool commenter Saboosh brought this to our attention on the Dragon Age 2 Cheats page, and we just had to share it with you — the ability to access and edit your saved games in Dragon Age 2 on PC, and basically reshape the world as you see fit.

It makes you like Neo in The Matrix, except you use a text editor and you (probably) won’t get shot at.

Here’s what you do, care of commenter FearCain over at the Bioware forums.

First, download this file, which we’ve got here on Game Front, and is also available on the Bioware forums. Then you can follow these steps to edit your saved game and amp your stats, add money, or do a few other cool things:

  1. Go grab the file and open it.
  2. From within the saved game editor, find and load the .das file of your game. It’ll be fairly small, around 200KB. Find it here: C:Users[username]DocumentsBioWareDragon Age 2Characters[character name]saves[latest autosave directory]
  3. The editor should show you a screen more or less like this, and you can adjust the numerical values to amp up your various stats.
  4. Use Save As on your game file. You’ll want to save your original in case something get screwed up.
  5. If you’ve got more advanced plans, check out the post on the Bioware forums, as FearCain has some really detailed instructions.
  6. Enjoy totally cheating on Dragon Age 2!

Looking for more cheats, glitches and generally underhanded ways of beating Dragon Age 2 into submission? You’ll want to head over and see the Infinite Gold and Experience Glitch video we’ve made, and also the Item Duplication Glitch video. We’re also building a full text and video game guide,

Classic character editor style program in a new video game? Oh hell yeah, downloading time.

On March 11, 2011 at 3:25 pm

No matter what I change it saves it fine, but if I go in to load the game well it says that I’m missing some DLC in french.

On March 11, 2011 at 3:49 pm

yeah same, keeps saying i am missing DLC, which i do as i have none

On March 11, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Same as others- am getting DLC error.

On March 11, 2011 at 7:32 pm

The French DLC error is a result of using the Dragon Age Origins executable. You can use it to adjust the stats o your party members but that is the only thing you can safely adjust. One adjustment to make is the dao.exe has the Stats in teh wrong order. As you adjust them use this info instead

1 – Str
2 – Dex
3 – Magic
4 – Cun
5 – Will
6 – Con

This works for all the party members however to adjust the main characters stats (your toon) or to adust the party members Friendship/Rivalry Lvls I had to use the editor.exe within the file. If your having issues finding them then refer to the FearCain Link above it helped me.

I have the same DLC error. Is there any person who found the solution pls reply

On March 12, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Thanks Glaeken. Editing my stats manually through the editor.exe worked perfectly well.

On March 12, 2011 at 9:58 pm

Can anyone tell me how to get past the dlc popup and edit my character

On March 12, 2011 at 10:45 pm

the reason why this screws up the DLC is because this is for Dragon Age Origins and not for Dragon age 2. like it says.
also if you read the ResRefNames.txt the characters are from Dragon Age Origins not DA2.

To all ppl having the DLC error.
You must edit the quick save (F5 by default), Not the normal saves.
Start your game.
Resume from your last save point.
Quick save (F5 by default)
Alt-tab out, and open the save editor.
Navigate to your C:\Users\[username]\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age 2\Characters\[character name]\saves\[QUICKSAVE 1].
QUICKSAVE 1 should be the game you just saved.
Edit your values
Save what you have done in the editor.
Alt-tab back to Dragon Age 2.
Press Escape to bring up the pause menu and select load.
Load the Quicksave game and your edits should be in place.
Repeat process till you are filled with GOD and WIN XD.
Once you are happy with your edits in the game, save normally and then reload your normal save to make sure that it works.
Hope this helps.

On March 13, 2011 at 8:28 am

only thing wrong is you can not edit the amount of stuff in the backpack.
once you do and save, the DLC error comes up when trying to load quick save game.

On March 13, 2011 at 11:15 am

Quicksave thing isnt working :S

On March 13, 2011 at 1:25 pm

Sorry guys. I was having the DLC error too but using the quicksave edit method solved it for me.
Are you using the up to date editor gff4editor-0.4.9b?
I have tried this method using gff4editor-0.4.9a and it wouldn’t work.

On March 13, 2011 at 1:40 pm

Also, I’ve had the most sucess with the daosavegame editor, rather than the editor.exe.
Note* All the names for abilitys and skills are all messed up in the DAOsavegame editor but they still work.

Here are a couple extra to add to Glaeken’s work above this post.

id 40 Threat decrease rate = specialisation points (don’t worry if you cant see it because you have to earn a specialisation point before you can see it in the saved game editor).

id 39 Damage bonus = Ability Points (Again, you have to have earned one to see it in the DAOeditor)

If you have any problem, just check http://social.bioware.com/project/1936/#files

the editor last version is 5.0 !!!

On March 14, 2011 at 2:28 am

Ok maybe i’m a noob, but i cant open the editor, is there a program i need to even open it? please help. thank you

On March 14, 2011 at 5:17 pm

For Adam. I don’t know if this is your problem: the download file is in 7 zip format. You need to download 7z file for free to unzip the file.

I also agree with Deviousfurball, just use the DAOsavegame editor. It works fine with me to edit the stats of all players.

On March 15, 2011 at 12:07 pm

thank you a lot for this great Tutorial and Software

On March 16, 2011 at 4:48 am

Like, can the creator or whatever tell us what order the stats are in? because the is everywhere and I have to spend a half hour just to get my DPS up -.-

On March 17, 2011 at 5:10 pm

This is patched for update 1.01? I get an error after loading an edited saved game, even if i dont edit it and i click “save” I will still get an error when i try to load it in the game??

On March 17, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Thanks to both “Mike Xianto” and “Deviousfurball”

The cheat only works with version 4.9b and above.
(I downloaded the Version 5 from Mike Xianto’s link)

Let me clarify as well.

This will NOT work on:
- Autosaves
- Normal Saves

This will work on:
- Quicksaves

Hope this helps :)

On March 19, 2011 at 8:11 am

Newest editor on bioware’s site, WILL work on Normal Saves. (At least for me)

Glum GLum

On March 22, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Yeah, the latest 0.5.3 version works perfect!

On March 22, 2011 at 2:05 pm

Maybe those of you, who still can’t make it work, should remember to download the newest version of the editor. If you follow the link on top, it leads you to an older version of said editor.

Newest one works perfect with quicksave.

Hope this helps anyone still struggling.

On March 27, 2011 at 2:13 pm

Thanks for the shout out. And thanks Glum Glum for the new version link

On March 27, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Thanks for the shout out.
Here is an updated link for the tool: (The one from Glum Glum doesnt seem to work because its for a version that is now outdated)
Click “Download” from the project page:

tnx guys, now i can edit my character with version 0.5.. ^^
enjoy cheating..

On April 19, 2011 at 10:08 am

if you pay attention to the save game before and after you save using the DAOsavegame editor, the contents of the backpack are totally altered, this is why the game asks for downloadable contents

On April 24, 2011 at 2:38 pm

Thanks for the updated link Saboosh!!!! That seems to have done the trick!

On May 19, 2011 at 8:49 pm

Okay, I’m not familiar with the editor. When I edit the stats, do I need to edit the modifier? If so, what is it for? And is there a maximum number I can edit to?

On June 10, 2011 at 5:21 am

yeah ıt ıs not work

On June 17, 2011 at 5:22 pm

the newest version works perfectly

On September 3, 2011 at 10:40 pm

On October 12, 2011 at 7:47 pm

They’re all outdated now. The new one doesn’t destroy your save games or cause the dlc error… You can find it here http://social.bioware.com/project/1936/#files

On October 14, 2011 at 11:42 pm

hey there.

maybe someone has a solution.

i used the editor, loaded the.das file tweaked the attributes, and now the health of main character only drops a little. it’s like i’m playing in god mode. how can i make the health bar drop accordingly when i take hits. also it boosted my character to level 30 warrior. i only wanted to tweak the attributes not have god mode implemented.

thank you for your assistance.

On October 14, 2011 at 11:45 pm

there’s a health section in there, i changed that to 100. do i need to change it back to default value 50 so that god mode will not apply ? if this is not it, a solution is very much appreciated.

On November 12, 2011 at 8:53 am

I can’t open the editor.exe! It says: “Fail to initialize the aplication due to incorrect configuration. Reinstaling the aplication might solve the problem”
But there’s no need to instal the gff4editor, is there? Isn’t enough to unzip and run the editor.exe??
Please help!!
Many thanks!!
