Dragon Shout App Lets You Use Your Smartphone to Navigate Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is so big, it’s easy to just miss stuff. Wandering the game is a schizophrenic affair that could make anyone feel like they need to get checked for attention deficit disorder — it’s hard to walk from Point A to Point B without finding something in the middle that can catch your attention.

Enter Dragon Shout, an upcoming mobile app that includes the map of Skyrim and a key feature: the ability to annotate it. You can drop markers in areas you want to return to, leave yourself a note, and find them again later, something that’s next to impossible using the in-game map.

When you create a Dragon Shout account, everything you save in the app goes online, so you can easily share your experience in Skyrim with others (a social feature the game itself doesn’t include). You’ll also be able to chat with others and share markers (eventually), so that if you find something awesome, you can send your friends there, too.

The app is due to hit Apple’s iOS devices, the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, later this week. It’ll follow for devices using Google’s Android operating system shortly thereafter. Get more information from the Dragon Shout website.

Oh, and it’ll be free. Score.

I’m going to lie, I was really hoping this was an app that allowed you to perform certain functions on a smartphone by speaking Dragon Shouts into it.
