Dreadline Is an RTS/RPG About Monsters Killing People About to Die

If a video game is going to send you off to behead people, shouldn’t it be people who are about to drown in the Atlantic because their unsinkable ocean liner just collided with an iceberg?

Yeah, the guys at indie studio Eerie Canal think so too.

That’s the premise behind Dreadline, an upcoming RTS/RPG hybrid that the studio is Kickstarting. Players take on the role of Ghost, an 8-year-old presumably dead kid, who teams up with a bunch of other monsters — Mummy, notably, and a werewolf girl — to hop into a time machine and visit great calamities in history right before they turn into tragedies. The monsters are there to kill people, but since these people are going to die anyway, it’s less of a big deal, I guess.

From a gameplay standpoint, Eerie Canal says it wants to tap some RTS and RPG gameplay tropes, but to make them faster and more frantic. You’ll be choosing a set of monsters at the outset of each level and deploying them around, say, the deck of the Titanic, issuing them orders and setting them to work. Then they’ll go around beheading people.

The guys at Eerie Canal have quite a pedigree, working at developers such as Irrational Games and Harmonix, and the art style of Dreadline is pretty impressive so far. Looks like fun.
