Duke Nukem Forever Might Have an iPhone App
Write this down as tentative speculation, but we might be seeing some kind of support for or version of Duke Nukem Forever on Apple’s iOS platform, the operating system it uses for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Here’s the skinny: The Internet detectives over at Touch Arcade checked out the preorder details on Steam for DNF and found the PC manual linked at the bottom of the page. Pull that document open and buried in the lawyerspeak is an interesting phrase: “Apple App Store Additional License Terms.”
The story notes that Gearbox hasn’t revealed just what engine they’re using to build DNF, but Unreal Engine 3, which could very well power Senior Nukem, is also available on iOS. That line about the “Apple App Store” above could refer either to mobile apps or Apple’s Mac App Store, which also has been seeing more game downloads of late. Here’s Touch Arcade’s take:
Alternatively, they could be referring to the Mac App Store, which is newsworthy as well as the previously mentioned FAQ specifically states the lack of announcements for a Mac version. …But then there’s the line that specifically states: ‘The license to the Software is a non-transferable license to use the Software only on an iPhone or iPod touch that you own or control.’
So there you go: start speculating, and remember that old school Duke Nukem is currently available as an iPhone game already…
