another thing that helps is .. if you are a smoker, smoke outside. Cigarette smoke or smoke from other stuff you might be smoking can really do some damage to electronics.

too much dust on a console is owner abuse in my opinion. Sony can't replace consoles that people have done unordinary things too. If you are a gamer and don't realize dust can screw up your system, I have no idea what rock you live under. I dust off my electronics at least a couple times a week.

I notice my PS3 does get a bit of dust if I don't touch it for a month or so, but I tend to clean it off every so often either when I know company is coming over or if I'm in the mood to dust off my electronics.

I thought the whole "dust voiding warranty" news item was fake, at least that's what I read?

@norbit

dont tell me you actually READ the manuals!
how boring are you? i only flick through to specific things, and only when something goes wrong!

@all

i dont get the point of voiding the warranty over dust! just seems excessive. i mean, how many dust related errors are there?

but i do agree that the owner has got to be one hell of a lazy slob!
it only takes a second to check if its dusty to the point of breakdown and only a moment to clean it!

On one of the site reporting this someone posted a link to the manual where it tells you clearly to keep it away from dust and cigarette smoke and clean the vents to prevent the build up of dust. The fact that this guy sent it in for repair with loads of dust in it means he obviously hasn't looked after it in accordance to the instructions. This is quite clearly an extreme case because its the only one anyone has heard of.

I Vacuum my electronic components 3X a week. It's the only way to keep everything clean & in good working order. I wonder what the rest of this guy's house looks like??? Probably a pig-sty.

I would void the warranty on anything that looks like it was dipped in baby powder! :shock:
