E3 2007: Hideo Kojima Unveils New Metal Gear Solid 4 Trailer at Sony Conference

The Sony conference has just ended and not surprisingly a sizable chunk of the show was devoted to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Hideo Kojima, the famed director of the series, took the stage to discuss the game and unveil a new trailer, along with a tentative release date of “Early 2008.” We should have the trailer up here soon, but it mostly revealed some more of the story with the usual vague references and foreshadowing. Unfortunately, the trailer did not have any gameplay footage — just a cut scene — but Kojima stressed that he would be showing off a demo in Tokyo next week. It seems the plot will revolve around Snake and some pals (including Meryl from MGS1) being hired to assassinate Liquid, who of course seems to have taken over Revolver Ocelot’s body entirely. There was also a surreal fight scene between a ninjafied Raiden and Vlad from MGS2, in which they both get horribly sliced up and broken, but still continue fighting. One noteworthy surprise during this scene too was at one point when Raiden slashes off the leg of a smaller Metal Gear, exposing flesh and blood. Be sure to check back here to see the trailer; it seriously gave me chills.

Sadly, Kojima also made the announcement that this game will end the story of Solid Snake, and that it will be the last game from him in the series. I doubt this is the last we’ve heard of him in the gaming world, but it’s still unfortunate to lose such an influential visionary from the ground-breaking franchise.

You forgot to mention that after the trailer and while Kojima and his translator were standing right next to him Jack Tretton said that MGS4 will be released exclusively on the PS3.

I was going to mention it, but I kept noticing that every time they mentioned it being exclusive they’d always add something like “next year” or “when it’s released.” That might possibly mean it will only be exclusive for a limited time.

jonathanf If you are going to apply those rules you should never announce any game on here as ever being an exclusive. When a company announces a game is exclusive you should report it as such until you know differently.

When they mentioned the game earlier while they were talking about other games it didn’t sound definitive that it would be exclusive but I’m pretty sure that after the trailer he said it would be released exclusively on the PS3. There was nothing vague in the sentence at all.

How can Sony publicly declaring that MGS4 will be a PS3 exclusive not be worth a mention when you are quite willing to post wild speculation that it won’t be? You shouldn’t ignore one of the biggest story’s just because you think it might not still be true in a year or so.

it doesnt matter wether snake will die or not. this game will leave people talking about snake and his exploits for years to come. to the point that he will be inmortalized.

As for MGS, its a awesome looking game, I beleive it was confirmed only for the PS3 at the E3 show. that is a shame for Xbox 360 owners. As for snake i havent followed the story but i think they shouldnt have made him Old so fast as a charactor. Maby if he dies off there will be games with a younger snake. I dont know and dont care, but i do know MGS will sell mad and is a Awesome game. Its all about Game play and MGS always delivers.
