Dawnguard Will Be ‘Significantly Bigger than Fallout DLC’
“It’ll take between 10 and 20 hours to beat,” Skyrim Lead Artist Matt Carofano told Game Front during an interview at E3 2012. “It’s about as long as a faction line.” So about as long as the Mages College or Companions Guild quests
The expansion centers on vampires, which we know, and actually has two complete storylines — one following the vampires in question and their goals, the other focused on their enemies, a faction of vampire hunters called the Dawnguard. While you’ll end up a vampire no matter which side you choose, you’ll still have the option of which side to back.
You’ll also get sent to one of the planes of Oblivion, the Soul Cairne. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion also sent players to a different plane in its expansion, The Shivering Isles, but don’t expect the Soul Cairne or Dawnguard to be quite so extensive as that.
But it won’t be a small DLC pack, either. Oblivion had several DLC offerings that didn’t come with much in the way of actual mission content, but it did offer the Knights of the Nine pack, a smaller DLC questline with new armors. And in the last big RPG Bethesda made before Skyrim, Fallout 3, DLC packs tended to consist of smaller bits. That’s not the case here.
“Dawnguard will be significantly bigger than any Fallout DLC,” Carofano said. “We wanted to do something more in depth than that. It’s not as big as Shivering Isles, but there’s still a lot of content there.”
That content will include both the vampire and Dawnguard quests, plus some side quests in the new locations such as the Soul Cairne. Carofano said the time investment will depend on how you play and how extensively you search through the story bits offered. Regardless of whether you get everything Dawnguard will have to offer or not, expect it to be a pretty sizable addition to your Skyrim experience.
