Dead Space 3 E3 Gameplay Demo – Too Many Bullets?

EA revealed a lengthy gameplay demo for Dead Space 3 during their E3 conference on Monday. Competitive multiplayer is out; drop-in, drop-out co-op is in. They really wanted to hammer that latter point home.

In the demo we get to see how Issac ends up on a new, icy planet, that he has a buddy with him, and that human enemies are a threat this time. What we don’t get to see is how Ellie got her eye back, where Issac learned to combat-roll (Commander Shepard stopped by?), and why assault rifles with universal ammo have replaced the creative limb-severing, skull-skewering weaponry of Dead Space 2. We can only hope there’s still some of that in there.

The gameplay footage is entirely of one action-packed co-op mission, so it’s unclear at this point how the game will feel should you choose to go solo. Fortunately, it’s been confirmed you can play the entire game alone, losing out only on some optional cutscenes if you do.

However, if this demo is how EA chose to represent their new entry in the Dead Space series, we may be witnessing an evolutionary path similar to the one Resident Evil is on – atmospheric survival horror losing out to insane buddy co-op. Decide for yourself by watching the full demo below.

Looks cool. Looks like Gears of War. Doesn’t look like Deadspace. I don’t know why they wanted to go in this direction, but it’s fairly cool to me since GoW isn’t coming out for PC any more and this might be a fair substitute, but there’s some risk when trying to imitate a different franchise, especially when the GoW dudes are as good at their jobs as they are.

Sounds like not playing co-op means I won’t have to worry about going through RE5 again. If that’s the case, then this game still has a chance.

Wish they had just left it like it was before. I adore this series, and if it becomes a GOW FPS I’m not going to anymore. I have never liked GOW at all, so if it goes in that direction I will be very unhappy.
