EA Doesn’t Support SOPA, But It Isn’t Against It, Either

So an enterprising young (maybe) redditor took it upon himself to bug the folks at EA about SOPA in an attempt to find out what their stance on it is. His email made the rounds inside the company, and he actually managed to get a response. You can read it here.

The short version is that EA has no stance on SOPA. They don’t support it, but they also aren’t going to speak out against it. Being a member of the ESA, that kind of makes them for it by default, but whatever. They’re trying to stay neutral.

I think there’s a Bible verse that seems pretty applicable to this situation. It’s Revelation 3:15-16

I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

That’s how I feel about this. Pick a side, EA! Staying neutral is the coward’s way out. Bah

No, they’re not neutral. Their advocates are supporting SOPA, so THEY do. Period. They cannot have no stance, while having official champions who so clearly trumpet that SOPA should pass. This is very very obvious. Gamefront should take a clear stand on this- I’m not stupid, do you think I am? How stupid can you get to believe “Oh, I have no opinion. Just ignore my super-vocal advocacy group who clearly support this!! Ignore them, as it will hurt my sales when the people who PAY MY LIVING WAGES get their freedom attacked! By ME!! Why- I could go out of business then! Who could imagine this PERSONAL ATTACK ON THEIR FREEDOMS could have CONSEQUENCES??”

Gamefront, say it, like it is. Don’t f*ck around with us. We are able to think (still). If you oppose this, say it. If you see something this obvious (ESA and by DEFINITION therefore it’s member’s stance), say it. Your ‘opinion’ piece is a good start (the one on not being able to champion the games industry anymore). It’s not opinion when a thing is deductively obvious. But you can look like SH*T by buying into their pathetic attempts to cover their asses. Yes, even this much. Tell it like it is, gamefront. That’s why we come here. You can do it.
